LeGrand 1/8 Mercedes 300 SLR Coupe kit LE102

Daimler-Benz developed this hardtop version of the 300 SLR endurance race car for the 1956 season. It was never raced because the company ceased motorsport activities at the end of the 1955 season. Instead the 300 SLR coupe served the head of the Test Department, Rudolf Uhlenhaut, as a company car.

"How is the 300 SLR different from the 300 SL street car?"
The 300 SLR racer and 300 SL share gull wing style doors but few if any parts, and are unfortunately separated in name only by the letter "R". The 300 SL was produced as a street car, whereas the 300 SLR was derived directly from the W196 Grand Prix car. In addition to a prettier body than the 300 SL, the 300 SLR has a unique frame, interior, straight eight cylinder engine, suspension, inboard braking system, and wire wheels. A note about the origins of this kit: it is being produced from completely new tooling specifically for LEGRAND and is not related to the 1/8 Mercedes 300 SL subscription kit by EagleMoss that was also prematurely announced and cancelled by Pocher.
